New Micromax Canvas A116 HD

Micromax is reportedly rolling out Android 4.2 Jelly bean update to its flagship smartphone, the A116 Canvas HD. According to Micromax focused website, MMX Newscaster, the update will not be available over the air and customers will need to visit Micromax service centres to get the update which will start rolling out this week. However, after the update, the smartphone will be able to get further updates over the air as it brings support for the same. The 8 MP auto focus camera with LED flash, 4x zoom, HD recording and playback capability of the Micromax Canvas HD A116 GSM mobile phone lets you capture any moment and make it precious. Its burst mode feature enables you to shoot stop-motion videos and give them a creative touch. The site has also posted a few screenshots of the phone running the Android 4.2.1 build of the OS. The update brings the translucent notification tray to the phone and removes the custom toggles for settings such as Wi-Fi, Brightness, Rotation, Bluetooth, GPS, Data, Screen timeouts and profiles (for alerts and other notifications). Instead, it features the same setting toggles shortcut that's found in stock Android for quick access to Airplane Mode, Battery status, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data connection, Data usage, Audio Profiles, Brightness, screen backlight Timeout and Auto Rotation. The phone will get standard Android 4.2 features including lock screen notifications and the Daydream picture frame mode. The report also mentions that the update fixes the issue related to the phone not locking to GPS easily, and now the phone's GPS works fine and locks faster. It also brings the missing Panorama mode to the Canvas HD's camera app.

The New Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2

The Tablet 2 is one of the most attractive Windows 8 tabs yet, standing out from identikit slates with a black, blocky build and a curved left-hand edge to hide the digitizer. At 580g, it’s lighter than the iPad 4, and with all of your ports on the tablet part you can get along just fine without the keyboard/cover. 

Well, unless you’re doing any typing that is. The keyboard is a mixed bag; it slots together with the Tablet part, but only connects via Bluetooth, and it lacks the flexibility of the likes of the Acer Iconia W510's hinged keyboard dock. There’s also no track pad – just an optical track point – but that at least leaves space for roomy keys that are a pleasure to type on. 

The ThinkPad’s 10 mm border is fitted with the usual ports and sockets: a full-sized USB 2 port, a 3.5 mm headphone output and a mini-HDMI output, and a proprietary docking connector along the base. There’s a slot for a microSD card, but it’s not SDXC compatible so can only accept an extra 32 GB of memory.

The move to a more mobile form factor has involved compromise – the Tablet 2 can’t match the best ThinkPad laptops for build quality because of a little give in the rear panel. It’s not a big issue, though, and the Tablet 2 is still in the top tier when it comes to strength; this is a device that’ll withstand the rigours of the working day.

The x86-based ThinkPad Tablet 2 runs (32-bit) Windows 8, with the mobile broadband model getting Windows 8 Pro.

The processor is the same dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z2760 Dual-Core found in other Atom-based Windows 8 tablets like the Asus VivoTab and Dell Latitude 10. You get 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, with storage expansion available via a microSD card slot.

Dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth (4.0) are both present, while the top-end model, as already noted, supports mobile broadband (HSPA+). The ThinkPad Tablet 2 also supports Near Field Communications (NFC) and includes a GPS receiver.

Intex Aqua I-5

The Indian smartphone space is heating up with not just international brands but even domestic aspirants, launching new phones. Intex Aqua I-5 is one of the newest launches. The phone which is a quad-core phone aimed at the budget-conscious audience wanting more from their devices was launched earlier this week.

Intex Technologies has launched its Intex Aqua I-5 smartphone in the Indian market. This smartphone will be available at a best buy price of Rs. 11,690.

Intex Aqua I-5 is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone packs in 4GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded by up to 32GB via microSD card.

The latest smartphone in the Aqua series boasts a 5.0-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen. Intex Aqua I-5 runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). For camera, there is a 12-megapixel rear auto-focus camera along with flash and a 2-megapixel front camera. The rear camera of this smartphone also comes with five layer lenses and BSI Sensor.

Intex Aqua I-5 comes with a 2,000mAh battery, which as per the company claims provides a talk time up to 5 hours and standby time of about 7 days. It is a dual-SIM GSM + GSM smartphone. Other connectivity options include 3G, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. This smartphone is also equipped with four sensors - Environment Light Sensor, Motion Sensor, Proximity Sensor and G sensor.
